On Wednesday, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which has met in Strasbourg this week, elected Kęstutis Masiulis, a representative of the Seimas delegation, as Chairperson of the Sub-Committee on the Europe Prize for a one-year term.
The Sub-Committee on the Europe Prize is responsible for awarding the Europe Prize, one of the most distinguished prizes presented annually to one or two European cities. The Prize may be competed for by all geographically European countries. Established in 1955, the Prize is the highest distinction that can be bestowed for active promotion of the European ideal in the area of cooperation (twinnings, European events, exchange visits).
As has already been announced, Egidijus Vareikis, a representative of the Seimas delegation, has been elected Vice-President of the PACE for a one-year term.
