Exclusive Bog Oak Flooring Collection Created in Lithuania

The design company GRIGO STUDIO is the first Lithuanian company to have presented the flooring collection made from especially rare bog oak wood. The flooring fits perfectly both in classical and modern interiors due to its characteristics and extravagant structure.

Moreover, the design company GRIGO STUDIO has developed and presented the world‘s first bog oak engineered flooring collection Ortus. All parquet flooring models of the new collection are composed of two layers, i.e. a solid bog oak top layer and a base layer made of high quality birch plywood.

Bog oak is oak wood that has been lying in wetlands, submerged under water and peat for several thousand years. These anaerobic conditions have protected oak wood from decay, while also changing its physical properties and colouring throughout the thickness of wood. Bog oak is famous for its natural unique and wide colour palette. The Ortus collection colours range from intense black to silvery grey, blue and even purple.

“We have selected carefully the most fitting bog oak wood for each of the flooring models. The colour, the texture, the oak grade – all of these aspects are thoroughly controlled so that every model maintains its unique look as well as the highest quality,” GRIGO STUDIO designer and developer of the Ortus flooring collection Vytautas Grigas claims.

Bog oak flooring stands out for its astonishing durability and resistance to decay as a result of its higher density. Due to its layering design, the Ortus engineered flooring collection is immune to swellings caused by changes in temperature or humidity. The bog oak engineered parquet is resistant to both discolouring from the sunlight and mechanical abrasion. In addition, the Ortus flooring is compatible with underfloor heating systems.

“Bog oak wood can be applied both in classical interiors and modern minimalistic spaces with refined and scarce elements. In such interiors the Ortus flooring can either become the focus of a room or can serve as the background for other details to unfold. At last, a Lithuanian company has presented the product that has astonished even the Western markets,” architect Marius Torrau remarks.

The Ortus engineered bog oak flooring collection offers a range of different finishes such as aging, oiling, waxing and lacquering. Over the time, the Ortus flooring becomes even more beautiful, while the natural characteristics of the wood are enhanced due to wear. The more it is exposed to wear, the more visibly expressive the structure of the bog oak wood becomes, adding the touch of restrained elegance and aristocratic charm to the floor.

The design company GRIGO STUDIO was established in 1993 and initially operated only in the field of the design and manufacturing of wooden stairs. Gradually, the company expanded its activities by including the production of oak wood furniture for export in 2003. In 2013, the company was reorganised into the design studio GRIGO STUDIO and started working intensely with exclusive and rare bog oak wood.
