The worldpremiereofthefirst automobile with a nanoFLOWCELL® powertrainarousedgreat international mediainterest. This highlyanticipated, revolutionarypowertraintechnologyandenergy-storagesystemcangivenewimpetustothefieldofelectricmobility.

“The QUANT e-Sportlimousine is a researchvehicleforroadtesting innovative energystoragesystems, focusingespecially on developmentandimprovements in flowcellbatterytechnology. The QUANT e-Sportlimousine isneither a showcar, nor a conceptcar. HowthenanoFLOWCELL® works

Flow cellscombineaspectsofelectrochemicalaccumulatorcellswiththoseoffuelcells. Liquid electrolytesarekept in twotanksandcirculatedthroughthecell. Attheheartofthesystem, a membrane separates thetwoelectrolyticsolutions, but allowselectricalchargeto pass throughandtherebyproduce power forthedrivetrain.

“The advantagesofthenanoFLOWCELL® lie in its high chargedensity, high performancedensity, andits light weightcomparedtoconventionalenergystoragesystems. Furthermore, itcontainsnoharmfulsubstances, nomovingparts, anditisveryefficient,” explains Nunzio La Vecchia.

The nanoFLOWCELL® was conceivedandisunderactivedevelopmentatthenanoFLOWCELLDigiLabsimulation lab atnanoFLOWCELL AG in Zurich, Switzerland. The resultsarevery promising: At a nominal voltageof 600 V and 50 A nominal currentthesystemisachieving an impressivecontinuousoutputof 30 kW. The nanoFLOWCELL® has a 5-times greater performance-by-weightthancurrent lithium-iontechnologiesthat power mostoftoday’selectricalvehicles, meaningitsdrivingrangeis 5-times greaterthan a conventionalunitofthe same weight.
