From September 15, 2012, LAWIN lawyers are extending the provision of their legal services outside of LAWIN current offices in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia by commencing activities in Brussels through the firm’s European Law Excellence Center (ELEX). ELEX unites the firm’s top experts in the EU and international law, with a particular focus on the EU law. LAWIN is the first law firm in the Baltic States to launch such project in Brussels – the capital of the EU affairs.
Rolandas Valiūnas, Managing Partner at the LAWIN Vilnius, maintains that the business needs and the interests of LAWIN clients were the driving force behind the decision to initiate this project. "This year, we will mark the 20th anniversary of the Vilnius office. Over time, we have become one of the largest law firms, with a top international ranking not only in the Baltics, but also across the Central European region. It is now safe to assert that a key reason for our success is the ability to listen to, understand and meet the needs of our clients, and to stay in touch with the market. LAWIN is taking steps to enhance its activities in Brussels due to the needs and interests of our clients. As a new stage of innovation starts in Brussels, we shall see for ourselves where EU decisions – which set the legal framework for all Baltic businesses – originate; we are now creating there our base, which will contribute to even better serving our clients."
Dr. Jaunius Gumbis, Partner at LAWIN in charge for the Brussels project, states that the firm’s active operation in the heart of Europe is a marked step forward in the market of legal services as well as in the overall quality of implementation of the EU law in the region. According to Dr. Gumbis, "Our thoroughly preplanned Brussels project is a timely response to the needs of our clients in the context of rapid integration with European Union markets. In taking this decision, we have also considered that Lithuania will take over the presidency of the European Union in the second half of 2013 and, which will bring European affairs even closer to every business. Even as we speak, EU law is increasingly permeating every area of business and government activities; key business decisions, including those in the fields of foreign trade and finance, manufacturing, energy, pharmaceuticals, biotechnologies, and chemistry, and even in agriculture, are often taken at EU or other international levels. Therefore, in response to market changes, we present a one-of-a-kind project in the Baltics, the implementation of which has brought together top LAWIN experts, all exceptionally experienced in EU law".
The team at the ELEX center in Brussels is located in the European quarter, and will specialize in the most active and sensitive areas of EU law. It will also be involved in research at the EU level, organize training concerning the application of EU and international law, litigation practices, and rights and remedies available under EU law. In particular LAWIN lawyers specialize in the regulatory and litigation matters in EU trade policy. Our team wields considerable experience in this area having advised clients on the EU trade affairs, compliance and remedies available for the individuals and companies affected.
