Minister Sabutis to Pay His First Bilateral Visit to Poland

Mr Eugenijus Sabutis, Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications, leaves for Warsaw on Wednesday to meet with Mr Krzysztof Gawkowski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs of Poland, and Mr Dariusz Klimczak, Polish Minister of Infrastructure. During their meetings, the Ministers will discuss bilateral projects and further strengthening of cooperation in the transport and logistics sector.

The Lithuanian and Polish Ministers will discuss the implementation of the strategic infrastructure projects Via Baltica and Rail Baltica, hybrid attacks and damage to communication cables in the Baltic Sea, reconstruction of joint military mobility routes, development of passenger train connections, digitisation and the development of 5G communications.

The meetings are also expected to focus on the priorities of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the region’s military mobility needs, support to Ukraine and other issues on the international agenda.

In addition, while in Warsaw, Mr Sabutis will meet with Mirosław Suchoń, Chairman of the Infrastructure Commission of the Polish Parliament, and representatives of LTG Cargo Polska, the Polish subsidiary of LTG Cargo, which is the freight transport company of the Lithuanian railway group Lietuvos Geležinkeliai (LTG Group).

The reconstruction of Via Baltica, a strategically important trunk road for Lithuania and international transport, has already resulted in the construction of more than 28 km of new trunk road from Marijampolė to the Lithuanian-Polish border. The last 12 km section along the Polish border is expected to be completed this year.

The Rail Baltica lines in Lithuania and Poland are expected to be connected in 2028.

The new Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) already includes a European railway line to Klaipėda and an additional North-Baltic Maritime Corridor link, providing the shortest route between Lithuania and Ukraine. At the initiative of Lithuania and Poland, the new TEN-T network also includes new military mobility links from Bialystok through Augustow, Lazdijai and Alytus to Vilnius.

Poland has taken over the six-month Presidency of the Council of the EU at the beginning of 2025.
