MT Group, a leading European EPC contractor specializing in strategic energy and industrial infrastructure, has signed a €37 million turnkey EPC contract with Amber Grid, Lithuania’s national gas transmission system operator, for the modernization and expansion of the Jauniunai Gas Compressor Station.
This 3,5 year brownfield project will deliver a 5MW electric motor-driven natural gas compressor and all supporting infrastructure, including a 15km high-voltage power line, civil works, roads, buildings, pipelines, E&I&C, commissioning and integration into Lithuania’s national gas network. The new compressor will feature fully electric, zero direct emission operation, reducing greenhouse gas output while improving system reliability and flexibility.
“Jauniunai reflects our strategy to deliver infrastructure that is not only reliable but also aligned with Europe’s decarbonization goals. We are proud to contribute to Lithuania’s energy transition with engineering excellence and innovation”, – said Dr. Kristina Norvaišienė, Executive Director of MT Group.
“The integration of an electric compressor will enable the system to operate efficiently across a range of modes, ensuring adaptability to dynamic market demands. The equipment will be powered exclusively by renewable energy sources, reinforcing our commitment to sustainability. This advanced technology will not only reduce gas transmission costs and emissions, but also enhance system flexibility and ensure the reliable flow of gas across the region”, – noted Nemunas Biknius, CEO of Amber Grid.
“This is a bold milestone project for Lithuania and MT Group. It reflects our mission to deliver critical energy infrastructure that safeguards security of supply while driving Europe’s energy transition. Jauniunai sets a new standard for innovation, safety, and sustainability in national energy systems”, – pointed out Mindaugas Zakaras, CEO of MT Group.
A Pillar for Lithuania’s Energy Future
Next generation Jauniunai Compressor Station will enable faster system balancing, load flexibility, and minimized methane & CO₂ emissions, supporting Lithuania’s 2030 energy strategy and EU decarbonization objectives.
