Lithuania has taken a significant step in advancing its role within the international renewable energy community by joining the IEA Photovoltaic Power Systems Programme (IEA PVPS). The membership provides Lithuania with the opportunity to contribute to global research efforts, exchange knowledge with more than 30 participating countries, and support the growth of sustainable energy technologies worldwide.
The Applied Research Institute for Prospective Technologies (ProTech) will coordinate Lithuania’s participation in the programme. ProTech also leads the national Lithuanian Photovoltaics Industrial Technology Cluster (FETEK), bringing together research institutions, innovation centers and industry partners working in the fields of photovoltaics, advanced materials and renewable energy technology development.
ProTech specializes in research and development of photovoltaic and energy efficiency technologies, new materials and their application, as well as the integration of green technologies in industrial environments. The institute’s laboratories are accredited under the international standard LST EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 and perform solar module testing in accordance with LST EN IEC 60904-1:2021 and LST EN IEC 61215-2:2021. These capabilities enable ProTech to conduct both fundamental and applied research and to support public and private sector partners with high-reliability testing and analysis.
Membership Reflects ProTech’s Recognized Competence at the International Level
ProTech initiated and completed the process of Lithuania joining the IEA PVPS programme and now serves as the country’s official representative. The institute will coordinate the involvement of Lithuanian experts in programme activities, contribute national research results to international working groups and ensure that Lithuania’s interests and capabilities are visible in global decision-making contexts.
“Joining IEA PVPS is a meaningful acknowledgement of our role as a national centre for applied research and technological expertise. With the mandate granted by the Ministry of Energy to represent Lithuania, we take responsibility for ensuring the country’s active and professional participation in global photovoltaic research initiatives. Our goal is clear – to make Lithuania’s innovations visible and impactful within the international solar energy community,” says Dr. Juras Ulbikas, ProTech representative in the IEA PVPS programme.
New Opportunities for Lithuanian Research and Industry
As Lithuania’s national coordinator, ProTech will facilitate:
Membership in the programme will also promote cooperation with universities, research centres and industrial partners abroad, strengthening innovation and supporting the development of advanced photovoltaic and green energy technologies.
Looking Ahead
ProTech is committed to active participation in IEA PVPS research projects and expert collaborations, ensuring that Lithuania’s progress in sustainable energy is visible and valued internationally. The institute expects this cooperation to stimulate scientific advancement, technological development and continued modernization of the national energy sector.
