Minister of Transport and Communications Eugenijus Sabutis has recently approved the new Board of Lietuvos geležinkeliai, AB (LTG) group. The new Board will consist of three independent members: Tomas Zdanavičius, Michael Fohrer and Peter Nielsen. The management structure of Lietuvos geležinkeliai group will also include two civil servants from the Ministry of Transport and Communications: Saulius Kerza and Agnė Amelija Mikalonė.
The new LTG Board has been formed for a four-year term, following the expiry of the term of office of the previous Board. The Board consists of 7 members, 5 of whom are independent. The selection of two additional independent Board members will be announced shortly.
“The main priorities of the Ministry of Transport and Communications and the main shareholder of the company, the State, for Lietuvos geležinkeliai group are the completion of the electrification of the Vilnius–Klaipėda railway line, which is one of the largest railway infrastructure modernisation projects, smoother implementation of the European gauge railway Rail Baltica construction project, increasing freight volumes, and accelerating the implementation of military mobility projects,” Minister Sabutis said.
According to the Minister, the new LTG Board will contribute to enhancing the competitiveness and efficiency of the group and strengthening their positions in the region and Europe.
“I am confident that the new Board, which will also include foreign experts, will make a significant contribution to overcoming these challenges. I wish them a smooth journey on this complex and challenging route,” Mr Sabutis welcomes the new Board.
A total of 86 candidates – as independent members – expressed their interest to participate in the LTG Board selection, which was carried out by the recruitment company Master Class LT.
Michael Fohrer has more than 30 years of management experience, including 15 years in the rail transport business and rail associations. His key responsibilities cover business strategy, its development and implementation. Mr Fohrer’s international experience as vice-president of Bombardier Transportation GmbH and Railways Transportation Business & Railway Association is particularly relevant.
Tomas Zdanavičius, who holds a master’s degree in management and business administration from VILNIUS TECH, has more than 20 years of experience in logistics, almost all of which has been in management positions. He was a member and chairman of the Board of three Hellmann Group companies and Edenred Finance, UAB.
The third independent member of the Board, Peter Nielsen, has led the Danish Battle Group in Afghanistan and other missions, and has worked for the Danish Ministry of Defence and NATO. Since 2021, Mr. Nielsen has been working in Lithuania as the commander of the NATO Force Integration Unit and thus has extensive experience in the development and management of the organisation.
4 candidates participated in the selection process for civil servants to join the LTG Board. Agnė Amelija Mikalonė and Saulius Kerza, representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, won the selection.
Ms Mikalonė, Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, is the only member of the previous LTG Board. She has participated in the activities of collegial bodies of various transport and energy sector companies and is currently also a member of the Board of Via Lietuva, AB.
Saulius Kerza, Director of the Budget and Investment Department at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, has extensive expertise in the field of transport and excellent managerial, organisational, and strategic skills. Over the course of 20 years at the Ministry, Mr Kerza has gained experience working on the boards of public limited liability companies and state-owned enterprises, and currently also serves as a member of the Board of the Public Institution Transport Competence Agency.
The newly appointed Board members will elect the chairman of the LTG Board.
