The Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius has offered his condolences for the death of Simonas Alperavičius, a long-time President of the Jewish Community of Lithuania.
“Strongly condemning the Holocaust, war crimes against the Jews and other peaceful citizens, S.Alperavičius always welcomed positive changes in the Lithuanian society and purposeful efforts of the authorities to preserve peace. While presiding over the negotiations for the restitution of the Jewish communal property, S.Alperavičius understood the difficult situation of Lithuania and sought for agreement in our society. He saw the bright future and perspective of the Jewish community in the democratic republic of Lithuania.
“We will all cherish the memory of this bright and noble person”, it is stated in the condolences of the Prime Minister.
