COL Gintaras Bagdonas, the Commandant of the Lithuanian Military Academy, as well as Rima Malakauskiene, deputy director of the Euro-Atlantic Cooperation Department from the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, represented the Lithuanian military at the event.
"The U.S. Government and the American people are deeply grateful for the great cooperation of the Lithuanian Military in operations in Afghanistan and in general, and we are delighted to continue strengthening this excellent relationship by providing annual scholarships to deserving Lithuanian cadets to attend our service academies," said Ambassador Derse.
She told the cadets that she sees them "as part of the framework on which Lithuania’s future peace and success is being built. You are Lithuanian’s future leaders and it all begins now."
