The Embassy of the United States is pleased to announce the visit by a delegation of American doctors and veteran care experts from March 7-11, to discuss veteran care throughout the Baltic Countries. They will be arriving first in Lithuania on March 7.
Project Hope, a program supported by the U.S. Defense Department, in particular is sending Dr. James Ecklund, a nationally renowned traumatic brain injury specialist, to speak with medical care providers. The Defense Department is also supporting the visit of two people from the Office of Wounded Warrior Care, who specialize in transition policy and military community and family policy.
This visit is part of a broad approach to improving the care provided to veterans and wounded soldiers returning from combat in support of coalition efforts. The U.S. Government is providing guidance to the region on how to develop a robust support network for all veterans and especially severely wounded soldiers. The U.S. team will meet with people from the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Affairs, and civilian medical professionals. The U.S. Government is hoping that this project will continue to strengthen the professional relationships between Baltic military & civilian medical personnel and their U.S. counterparts involved in caring for wounded soldiers.
