5 October 2017 – VILNIUS, Lithuania – Wolt, which makes it easy to discover and get food from the most popular restaurants in your city, launches in Vilnius on Thursday, 5 October 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Vilnius marks Wolt’s first city in Lithuania.

Initially, Wolt lets people use the service with 29 restaurants in the central area. Users can place an order in as little as 10 seconds and have the food either delivered to their homes, pick it up at the restaurant for takeaway or order straight to the table.

“For me, Vilnius is the logical next step. Progressive and aspiring people, very diverse and rich restaurant scene, ” says Baltic General Manager Liis Ristal. “We want to offer the easiest and quickest way to get to great food and new ways how restaurants expand their reach. 92% of the orders via Wolt are new customers for the restaurants.”

Wolt will deliver with bicycles, scooters and cars. The delivery will take 30 minutes on average, including food preparation time. Meals are delivered in preheated bags keeping them warm. The delivery fee starts from 1.5 euros.

The Apple-awarded app shows the customer minute-by-minute updates on how their order is coming together and lets them follow the delivery to their door on a map.

In Wolt, more than 450 000 users and 900 restaurants have signed up for Wolt in less than a two years.  The company has a local team on the ground in Vilnius, and is looking to hire more doer-type people to help the company grow internationally.

Wolt is backed up by some strong investors and some 15 M euros in funding.

Investors include Skype founder Niklas Zennström, who as CEO grew the video and voice call service from zero to more than 300 million users. Also on board are Nokia chairman Risto Siilasmaa, and Ilkka Paananen, who runs the 8 billion euro gaming success Supercell.

“We honestly couldn’t think of better partners on the planet to help us on our journey”, says Miki Kuusi, who himself has earlier led the European startup mega event Slush from 300 to 15 000 attendees as CEO.

“Our last round was led by EQT Ventures, who have founders such as Kees Koolen. He took the online hotel booking service Booking.com from 1 million to 8 billion euros in revenue. He’s also been a growth advisor for Uber since the very beginning. It’s an utter pleasure building something with this expertise as help.”

CEO Kuusi was recently chosen on the Forbes 30-under-30 list in consumer tech, while Elias Pietilä, one of the six Wolt co-founders, was the first person in the Nordics to win the prestigious Apple Design Award.

Investors in Wolt also include Inventure and Lifeline Ventures, among others.
