Nord Steel Signs €1.4 Million Contract with MT Group for Manufacturing and Supplying Green Hydrogen Storage Tanks in Klaipėda

Intensive preparation work is underway at the Port of Klaipėda ahead of the construction of the first green hydrogen production and refueling station in the Baltic States. MT Group, a leading European energy infrastructure development company supplying equipment for the project, has selected Nord Steel as the manufacturer and supplier of hydrogen storage tanks.

Nord Steel, which operates three steel fabrication units in Lithuania, has committed to designing, manufacturing, and delivering three advanced green hydrogen storage tanks to the Klaipėda port for €1.4 million. These include a 40-bar green hydrogen buffer tank and two hydrogen storage tanks capable of withstanding pressures of 550 bar and 1000 bar.

"This project, which we undertook with a clear vision for the future, is not only an important step in the development of Klaipėda Port's infrastructure, but also a significant investment in long-term sustainable solutions that will shape a more modern, cleaner and innovative transport and industrial ecosystem. Moreover, this project demonstrates Lithuania’s industrial capability not only to adapt to global changes, but also to actively participate in shaping them, demonstrating a high level of competence, professionalism and a responsible approach", – says Algis Latakas, General Director of Klaipeda State Seaport Authority.

According to Mindaugas Zakaras, CEO of MT Group, the company has extensive experience collaborating with Nord Steel on complex manufacturing and installation projects for energy and industrial facilities across Europe.

“We possess a high level of industrial competence in Lithuania that can successfully compete on a global scale. This project will enhance our ability to export our expertise and knowledge across Europe. We believe this project will not only act as a catalyst for the development of green hydrogen technologies in Lithuania but will also make a significant contribution to the region's sustainable energy breakthrough,” added Zakaras.

Nord Steel, a manufacturing and engineering solutions company, provides services in the design, manufacture, transport and installation of steel products worldwide. The company specializes in complex steel products, tanks, and other industrial equipment and structures. It serves the power generation, pulp and paper, civil construction, marine, oil and gas, and environmental sectors.

"We see the Klaipėda Port green hydrogen station project as an opportunity to set a benchmark for such facilities across the Baltic region. Our primary focus is ensuring the highest safety and quality standards," asserts Remigijus Kurgonas, CEO of Nord Steel.

MT Group is a leading EPC contractor in critical energy and industrial infrastructure projects across Europe. The company's expertise extends to the development, engineering, and construction of renewable energy, hydrogen, and carbon capture facilities, positioning MT Group at the forefront of sustainable engineering.
